CMA Moldform is pleased to announce its collaboration with acclaimed British artist Tom Palmer as part of his Ionian Iris commission.

CMA continues to be recognised for its expertise in Polyurethane RIM applications across many industries including art and sculpture. With much experience in providing artists with highly personalised pieces of exceptional visual quality, the Ionian Iris is a perfect example of CMA executing this skillset to create a unique clear Polyurethane art piece.

The Ionian Iris is a large lens that has been cast in translucent, cerulean blue tinted resin, created through a series of intricate layers applied over a hand silvered panel and set within a patinated Steel frame. The complex layering process has created a unique optical effect, magnifying and manipulating the reflection through the coloured lens. The deep blue tints emitting from the centre of the Iris that reach outwards were carefully positioned through the resin over many pours to ensure the detailed visual effect embodies the depth, definition and colour needed to truly represent the human eye.

The piece is the first in a series of commissions based around the theme of the eye. Further work is now underway to utilise the techniques used to developed the Ionian Iris, with the aim to add even greater optical effect and detail through the layering method. The piece is set to be on display through various arts fairs and galleries during 2018 so keep an eye out.
